Hey guys! Ready for a tour of our cozy, colorful, eclectic living room?
This is our only living space in our house. My goals with this room were to make it comfortable and cozy, but also bright and colorful. Several of the art pieces, and a couple of the chairs in here, were gifted or inherited. The result, I think, is a pretty eclectic space, but not one that is going to end up on the cover of any magazines 😉
The room is pretty small- so I have to apologize in advance for the pictures- I just couldn’t get a good picture of the whole room. It’s got a quirky floor plan- as I mentioned in my kitchen post, the doorway that leads from the kitchen to the living room cuts traffic straight through the middle of the room. And, this room also had a small opening that led to W’s bedroom. It was odd- it had low ceilings, maybe 6 feet tall, and it was maybe 4 feet long total. Weird huh? We enclosed that area to make W’s room a true bedroom.
This is the view from the kitchen. The components are on my grandmother’s old sewing machine, which is clearly midcentury, a design period that I love. That map of Georgia is vintage. Michael had it in his Georgia room at the old house and I had my eye on it forever.
Yes, that television is a monstrosity. Small room. Limited options for television placement (read the drama of the overmantel here). What else are we gonna do? We have to be able to watch The Walking Dead on Sunday nights!
I have THE HARDEST time deciding what to put on the fireplace mantel, and always have. I always think that simple is better, and I hate when it looks too “decorator-y”. Yet, we have a huge TV up there. What’s wrong with me???!!!
But, I finally thought of these old glass insulators and realized they were perfect. Michael’s dad used to collect them, and we pick them up when we find them out on “The Hunt”. The colors are spot on, and since they are a repeat of the same thing, visually they don’t drive me crazy.
The curtains came from this shop (not affiliate) on etsy. Yes, I know they are too short, and really…too narrow. I really just messed up the measurements. But, the curtains are beautifully done, a very heavy weight, and I would definitely recommend them.
This is the view from the sectional, looking in towards the center hall. Notice my lamp from The Hunt? I’m happy to report, it’s thriving in it’s new location!
Here is my library 😉 Yes, just my “pretty” books are here. My Twilight collection is elsewhere.
I know that sorting books by color is pretty trendy right now, but it’s a trend that I am totally down with.
Finally, the transom window. It looks pretty pitiful right now, right? I’ve painted all of the ones in the center hall to match the doors, which are navy. But this one- bless. I am holding off just because I can’t decide the color to paint it. I think the trim is all going to be painted soon, too, just not sure the color.
That’s our colorful, eclectic living room! It is due for an update soon, actually. I’ll keep you posted!

I love eclectic too! Weird as it may sound, my goal for my home is for it to look as beautiful as possible in a way that would never be described as “a magazine home”. 🙂
Thank you Marie for stopping by! I totally agree- I just want my home to be as beautiful as possible, while I am surrounded by the things that I love and that mean a lot to me and my family! And that usually results in a pretty eclectic look 🙂
