I guess the title says it all. Three weeks. I’m organizing my house, from top to bottom, in three weeks. That’s how long I have before I have to start focusing on the One Room Challenge. Really, it’s about 2 1/2 weeks.
Here’s what’s going on. You guys know I’ve got issues with organization, right? And, when I re-did my mudroom, you may have noticed a conspicuous lack of anywhere to shove all of my the mountains of papers that pile up in there.
That’s because I just couldn’t do it. I knew that if I added somewhere to store papers, they would end up piling up again. I just couldn’t mess up that pretty room that way. I need to suck it up and deal with my organization issues. And also, quit procrastinating on addressing the papers that come in.
Actually, I’ve got 3 main areas I have to work on in organizing my house, and it’s for real this time:
The lowers, mostly. They are too dark and cluttered, and the lowers are pretty much just wide open, with no functional storage at all. They are a dark hole. We can’t do anything too fancy, but if I can just lighten up with paint, shelf liners, and some baskets, I think that will make a huge difference in here.
Clearly, the uppers aren’t the problem 🙂 But I have to get my nerve up before I share real life pictures of the lowers!
Update: See the organized kitchen cabinets here!
New Office Area
I recently moved my workspace from the entry hall to the little funky alcove area in the living room. All I had to sit the computer on was this console table, which as you can imagine, isn’t terribly functional:
I really need a real desk in here, but I’ve been holding out because I just didn’t want a desk in the living room. Our living room is pretty small, and I was avoiding having a combined space. But that’s silly. This space is not terribly usable for anything else, and it’s the perfect size for a desk area.
I’m planning to add a real desk with some good storage. It’ll be a fun challenge to incorporate it in the room.
Soooo….I’m a few months behind on finishing my master bedroom closet. I got kind of saturated on that project and just….stopped. And there’s no way that I’ll be able to finish it the way that I want to do it in three weeks- what I have in mind is practically a full room reveal! But I do want to incorporate some storage for paperwork on one of the shelves. That should be a pretty simple project (laughs maniacally).
Update: There is no update. I’m still way behind on this project. But if you check out the update for the office area, you’ll see that there no longer any need for paperwork storage in the master, so that’s good, right?
So, three projects. Three weeks. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…..
