Hey guys! Today I thought I’d share the budget breakdown for the library makeover for the One Room Challenge.
This room was totally different for us, budget wise, than usual, because we were starting pretty much from scratch, since were were completely changing the function of the space. We had no functional storage pieces in the room prior to the ORC and pretty much no seating, other than a couple of antique wingbacks. So, there were definitely some large ticket items that were a little cringy for me at the time, but I’m honestly not sure that I could have made the room function the way that I wanted it to without dropping the money that I did.
Here’s what we spent.

Paint for walls: $46 (two gallons for $23, Valspar on sale)
Rug: $120 (two 5X7’s laid lengthwise, cost is for two)
Total for misc: $221
I kind of have to take some deep breaths when I see that figure, because I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much money on a room at one time before. My rooms almost always develop slowly, over time, using stuff that we already have. But I have to remind myself, again, that we literally gained a whole room from this makeover. This space was just a walk through before. Now we have a functional, beautiful space that has tons of storage and organization. So it was worth it.
Plus, I saw a blogger that I love linking an area rug from her room the other day on sale, and even on sale her rug cost way more than my whole room did. It made me feel a teeny tiny bit better 😉 That rug was fabulous by the way!
Hope you guys have a great rest of the week!
