A traditional living room mood board with hits of color!

It’s One Room Challenge time! Yup, right after finishing the $100 Room Challenge, I’m jumping into the One Room Challenge. My target this time? Our living room, which has somehow become the “leftover room” in our house.
Here are a couple of before pictures.

One of my biggest motivators for doing this room is to address the weird little alcove, in the pic above. I’ve always pictured that space as a little reading nook. Plus, this is a pretty small room, and we can definitely use the extra seating and storage.
So where am I heading with this design?
Well, I am really loving traditional living room design right now. I love how timeless and classic it is, and I find myself more and more pinning images for rooms that lean traditional with a twist. I’m getting tons of inspiration from Mark D. Sikes, Elizabeth from the blog Blue and White Home, and Emily Henderson’s more classic designs.
Here’s a moodboard that I made that will give you an idea of where I’m heading with this design:

Picture this with white wainscoting. As you can see, I’m really loving the combination of white, wood, and navy, with my signature hits of bright color here and there.
I’ve got a kind of ambitious project list for this room, but it’s mostly stuff I’ve been planning to do since we first moved in and I’ve never gotten around to doing. I need to:
- paint the walls
- wainscoting for the lower portion of 3 walls, but I’m going up the fireplace wall all the way
- paint the ceiling
- build in the nook
- figure out an art arrangement once and for all (gallery wall?)
- change out the rug
- update the ceiling fan
- paint a chair that was my grandmother’s and is upholstered in orange fabric.
- change the curtains
- update the throw pillows
- reupholster the ottoman
The last time I participated in the ORC I turned our unused entry into a library– and it was the best decision ever! It went from being just a pass thru to a room that we use every single day. I’m excited to get started on this space!
Be sure you check out the rest of the bloggers doing the Fall ORC– 20 featured designers and the guest participants! I can’t wait to see what everyone is doing this round!
