I know it’s been way, WAY too long since I blogged, and I owe you guys a major update…after all…we’ve sold the Laurel House and bought a new house since I last wrote a real blog post! But today, I’m playing catch up with the One Room Challenge as a guest participant so I’ve got to jump right in to this, tail first. I mean, who starts the ORC already behind? Me, apparently. But it’s the kick in the pants that I needed to finally, finally do some good work on our owner’s suite, which is in a sad state of affairs.

Just look at this before pic:

Truly, the only thing I’ve done since we moved in was to move in our furniture. That’s it. The paint color is what was on the walls when we moved in.

You might recognize pretty much everything else in that room as the exact same stuff (furniture, bedding, everything) that was in our last owner’s suite.
This room is a lot smaller than our last bedroom, which is fine- but incidentally, the adjoining owner’s bathroom (the bathroom is through the door in the pic below) is huge! It’s almost as big as the bedroom. I honestly don’t understand huge bathrooms- they feel like a colossal waste of space to me. So someday, we’re remodeling the bathroom to add more space to the bedroom and the closets, which are tiny compared to the bathroom.

Here’s the plan for this room:

I mean, I guess it does look a lot like our last bedroom, especially since we are using exactly the same furniture:

But we really loved our last bedroom. It felt exactly right to us- a little beachy, light and bright. So why not go for something similar in this one? After all, I’m not like a real designer- it’s not like I’ve got to design a room for a client, or shock factor or page views. I’ve just got to make a space we will love.
One difference- I’m introducing as much red as pink here. Michael really loves red, and he’s always so supportive of however I want to design the rest of the house. I want him to LOVE this room!
So….the walls…I’m going to do board and batten (a lot like the living room and the mudroom in the Laurel House) painted white…with…I think… a very light pink above. If I can find just the right shade of pink.

The blue dresser will get a total makeover with a new paint color, new hardware, and a cheap caning treatment! I’ve been super inspired by Monica and her super inexpensive but impactful furniture and decor upgrades lately!
The fan will get an upgrade too- probably a spit and polish with paint and a new light cover.
I’m sure there were be few changes along the way! Thanks for following along, and be sure to check out the ORC featured designers and the ORC guest participants! Go!
